Are you interested in learning how to program, but unsure where to start or what to do? If you want to better understand how the internet works together and what the difference is between the Front-End and the Back-End, then this class is for you.

This class will provide an introduction to Ruby on Rails - a back-end language and framework. Learn about the fundamentals of programming for the web, the required toolset and where to go next.

Student Takeaways:

Learn the fundamentals of web development and dip your toes into to Ruby on Rails
Understand how servers work to interpret your code and present your website
Get familiar with freely available resources on the web so you can continue on your coding journey

Level & Prerequisites:

None, but please bring a laptop so that you can code along

Ben Askins has been developing software since the early nineties and working professionally with ruby on rails since 2006. He gets a kick out of working with business owners to understand their requirements and develop web-based systems that help them kick-arse. Ben is the co-founder and CTO of Insvrance Pty Ltd - building a next-generation platform for selling and administering travel insurance. He likes to spend his downtime hanging with his family, lifting weights, mountain biking, roller skating, and writing music.
