VR/AR

Details
This month we have a VR/AR extravaganza hosted by Architectus. There will be 4 speakers:
Steve Fox will showcase a variety of VR platforms: Fuzor, Enscape, Unreal, plus show a fun workflow from Revit, to Rhino to AR. Steve joined BIM Consulting as the General Manager in 2014, with the goal of using his expertise in emerging technologies to improve the way architectural designs transition from concept through to construction and lifecycle management. In his role as the Digital Technology Leader at Architectus, he works with clients and the project teams across all sectors to write the digital implementation plan, which helps the team to understand the client’s needs and the best way to service them.

Montanna Green will speak about her ongoing research thesis, which covers the topics of BIM, Augmented Reality, and cloud computing. Montanna is developing a system that uses an AR application to map a building information model onto site to find discrepancies between as-designed and as-built. The system then allows users to update the model through the AR application, which is then instantaneously synchronised to the Building Information Model using Flux.io and Dynamo. Her project aims to provide a system that enables effective multidisciplinary collaboration and an accurate and up to date building model. Montanna is currently writing her final year graduation thesis for the Bachelor of Computational Design, at the University of New South Wales.

Barry and Shanny will showcase a collaborative, interactive, narrative based experience that they have developed to demonstrate the potential of VR beyond the one-click tools. Barry is the head of the visualisation and VR team at BVN and Shanny is our Lead VR Experience Developer. Together they have spent the last two years developing VR experiences that will potentially add real value to the architectural visualisation space. Their talk will outline what they have learned from developing for this new and challenging medium.
