What we're about
This is a group for anyone interested in overcoming social anxiety or dealing with extreme shyness in social situations.
This group was originally created by Gina, an alumnus of the cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT) program at the Social Anxiety Institute (SAI) in Phoenix, Arizona. The foundation for the CBT group was the audio therapy series "Overcoming Social Anxiety," created by Dr. Thomas Richards of SAI.
Previous meetups have included social outings such as apple picking, lunch at Wegmans, walking at Erie Canal, a Cardio-Salsa class (similar to Zumba), hanging at the MOST Museum, and gathering at Natur-Tyme or Onondaga Free Library for discussions. Some members also participated in a therapy group based on the audio series from SAI.
Though Gina has relocated and is no longer living in the area, this group will continue to carry out her mission - to provide a community for those in the Syracuse area who struggle with social anxiety. This is an opportunity to meet and connect with like-minded others in a laid back, non threatening atmosphere.
