• Death House 1 - Movie + Cast Interviews

    Reserved Party Room.v2

Filmmakers! Let's • Watch the DEATH HOUSE 1 movie, the making-of short, plus interviews with the cast. • Learn how and why they filmed it the way they did. • Find out what the writers and producers were able to glean from and promised to the writer, Gunnar Hansen (a.k.a. Leatherface from Texas Chainsaw Massacre) before he passed away. The Latest Info: • Meet, greet, & eat from 6:30pm to 7pm; the showing starts at 7pm. • Small donations are gladly accepted: The organizers have to pay for the party room rental, so every little bit helps. What to bring: • Snacks and/or beverages to share. The room has a fridge/freezer, oven, and sinks. • A strong stomach. It's a solid horror piece, dark and nasty, not satire or tongue in cheek. Think Assault on Precinct 13 meets Jurassic World (without the dinosaurs). Movie Info: • Run time: 1h 35min, rated R for Horror and gore. • Status: Completed filming, release in theaters was very limited, now only available on DVD and streaming (until the other parts come out). • Sony Pictures Home Entertainment picked up the DVD and on-demand distribution for Death House 1 and prequel Dawn of 5 Evils (if all goes well, Sony does the international distribution of the whole Death House #2-7 franchise). • Early drafts of the script had been written as possible scenes or storylines for the SAW franchise. • Death House ads, trailers (shown before Insidious 4), and nationwide electronic billboards started mid-Dec 2018. • 95% of the SFx are practical, only 5% are CGI. • Reportedly, $200K from movie budget was for actors' promotion at these conventions: airfare, housing, food, stipend, etc. This is usually after the movie comes out. • On-location filming of Death House part 1 began in April 2016 in the creepy, abandoned Holmesburg Prison (http://files.meetup.com/8422442/DH%20locations.pdf), outside Philadelphia PA. • Watching "The Good Exorcist" at the Twin Cities Film Fest with Director Q&A

THE GOOD EXORCIST is the debut feature of Josh Stifter, IPR Graduate. Josh directed this off-beat horror film after attending the Robert Rodriguez "Rebel Without a Crew" intensive workshop. Josh was one of five young filmmakers to be selected worldwide out of 2,000 applicants. The movie starts at 7:30, and there is a Q&A after with the director. It looks like an excellent opportunity to mingle with other independent filmmakers and ask about the challenges of working on a small budget. View the trailer: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tkt7yYzfVFI&t=6s It doesn't look like there is a lot of space inside to meetup before the event, but we will have a Meetup sign for the group before the movie starts. You can buy tickets at the door or online, $10 (+processing fee) Early Bird, $12 Same Day/on-site. If you are a Twin Cities Film Festival Member you can get in for free! • Pre-production on our first project!

    Quixotic Coffee

Once the voting results are in, we'll be able to spend this meeting finalizing our shooting script. We can figure out which parts of the script need tweaks, and get a rough storyboard going. Don't worry if you weren't able to make the last meetup, we'll still have the screenplays available to view before we get together so any new members can jump in. We'll be in the meeting room we've used the last two times. Just go straight to the back, you can't miss it!

  • March Meetup to critique and brainstorm short film scripts

    • What we'll do We will introduce any new members that couldn't make it last meetup, then go over any short film scripts that were submitted for our first group project. The deadline for turning in any short scripts should be the Monday before we meet (March 12th) so people have time to look them over. Remember, if you are submitting, this is our first project as a group, so we're going for fewer locations and short run time (approx 5 minutes). • What to bring If you did submit a script, please bring a few extra copies to pass around. • Important to know You can email your scripts here: [masked] as an attachment; it will be forwarded to all members of the group that allow Mailing List emails. (At first, we had the moderator-approval option turned on, but *that* didn't allow attachments, so it was shut off--so be kind with your emails).

  • Discussions, Thoughts and Ideas!

    Quixotic Coffee

    • What we'll do For our first meetup, we will introduce ourselves and discuss our ideas, goals, resources available for the group. While this will be a fairly casual first meetup, we'll also discuss potential challenges and restraints we may face as we move forward. • What to bring If you have a demo/portfolio/website of any past work you want to share, please feel free to bring it. (If not, no worries!) • Important to know -What kinds of films are people most interested in creating -What equipment/resources do we have at our disposal -What members feel are their strengths they bring to the group (acting, directing, cinematography, makeup, ect) -Any upcoming festivals/events that would highlight any work produced -Brainstorming budget/shooting ideas to maximize working with small budgets
