What we're about

Welcome to the Bay Are's first Trans* and GenderQueer Meditation Meetup.

Refuge for us means this group is Trans* and GQ/GV Lead for Trans* identified folks in our Bay Area Communities. Our goal is to provide a safe and welcoming space for all folks under the Trans* umbrella who are interested in practicing and exploring Insight/Vipassana meditation (the observation of your thoughts and body). This group is for beginners as well as folks who have been practicing for awhile. You're facilitator is Fresh! White. Fresh! is a student in Spirit Rock's Dharma Leadership Program and has been practicing seriously for over 5 years. For diversity, I will be inviting other T&GQ folks here from EBMC and other Center's to take the lead sometime. If you are interested, please get in touch with me directly.

It is my hope, and as expressed by some of the folks showing up already, to - together, deepen our mindfulness meditation practice, discuss some of the issues that may be up for us as Trans* & GQ Folks and build a mindful community.

Wishing you Love, Peace, Safety and Happiness,

Fresh!

Joy in Community: A Trans & Gender Expansive Residential Retreat

We Have Scholarships Available! Creating Joy in Community: A Transgender/GNC/GQ/NB Residential Meditation Retreat Come join Fresh aka "Lev" , JD, René and Riya For the first time, a residential meditation retreat is being offered for the Trans*, Two-Spirit, Gender Expansive, Genderqueer, communities. This 5 day, 4 night retreat at the Big Bear Retreat Center, Big Bear, California will be a space, where the grounding of kindness and compassion will support the healing from day to day harms and legacies of injustice. We will offer meditation, mindful movement and heart-centered practices. These practices will be offered in silence balanced with discussions and community-building group exercises that nurture radical connection, joy and resilience. Dates: Thursday, September 12th 4pm - Monday, September 16th 11am Registration: https://insightla.org/event/creating-joy-in-community-a-transgender-gnc-gq-nb-residential-meditation-retreat/2019-09-12-16-00/ What to expect: The daily rhythm of a retreat usually involves alternating periods of stillness and movement meditation, time in nature, meals and tea, as well as practice meetings, dharma talks and rest periods. The first practice begins before breakfast. Each morning the teachers offer continuing meditation instructions for the day. The whole retreat is a succession of mindfulness training, breathing practices, deep awareness of the body and environment, meditations on the nature of feelings, and awareness of mind are from the Buddhist Insight Meditation tradition. Still Meditation: In stationary meditation practice silence and stillness develop, concentration deepens, and awareness expands. The training of the heart brings kindness and compassion for all that arises. We come into presence and learn to find freedom in the midst of life that as it truly is. There are a number of postures for practicing still meditation, including laying down, sitting on a cushion, or a chair. We are also accepting donations to support scholarships for those needing them to attend. You can support that fund here: https://insightla.org/Calendar/Event-Calendar/EventId/1109/e/creating-joy-in-community-a-transgendergncgqnb-residential-meditation-retreat-12-sep-2019 Thanks and hope to see you there!
