  • Movie Screening - Wizard People Dear Reader
IMPORTANT UPDATE: LOCATION CHANGE: I was able to get our venue switched to a larger space. We will now have this event at WeWork 135 Madison Avenue 5th Floor. This means I can now open up to additional RSVPs. PLEASE. It is VERY VERY IMPORTANT that you are accurate for your RSVP. If you say yes, but cannot attend, you are preventing someone else from attending. ------ What is Wizard People Dear Reader? It is (IMO) one of the funniest Harry Potter parodies ever made. Created by Brad Neely, he created an alternative audio track to play during Sorcerer's Stone, and it is hysterical. It also is an important part of the history of Harry Potter fan works. As Warner Brothers sued him for it, despite it being 100% fair use. I cannot emphasize enough, how every adult Harry Potter fan (because the language is definitely at least PG 13) should see this movie. If you are unsure, or on the fence. Just trust me. Attend this Meetup and see this film. You will not regret it. That being said, yes, the film is almost entirely available on YouTube. But I recommend not watching it online because you will spoil some of the more outrageous jokes. We will be screening WPDR in one of We Work's wonderful common room spaces which has a capacity of 60 people. Please note that due to the run time of Sorcerer's Stone, we MUST start the movie promptly at 6:40pm. So it is very important to be on time, or even potentially arrive early. We Work has graciously extended their normal closing time just so we can screen this.

  • Fall Cosplay Day! A Wizarding Garden Party at Untermyer Park
It's been a while since we did a shoot at Untermyer Park. The magical hidden garden in Yonkers. Since then the park has undergone an extensive series of restorations, making a perfect opportunity for a new cosplay day at the site. We will give more details about the cosplay theme soon. In the meantime please read our cosplay day FAQ: https://drive.google.com/file/d/15SgwTKUMjNE7ku2wA8yWBHFEztZw2nRi/view?usp=sharing TRAVEL INFO: The park has a small parking lot. There is also a large parking lot across the street (but I am not sure if that has a time limit or a store use restriction) TRAIN: You can take the Metro North Hudson Line to the Greystone station. Then we recommend coordinating with other traveling members (via the event comments or otherwise) to split Ubers / Lyfts, etc. The distance from Greystone to Untermyer is less than 1 mile, but we don't recommend walking as its very hilly and not pedestrian friendly. We are also going to see if any of our driving members will be interested in providing trips from the train station to the park. Alternatively you can take Metro North Hudson Line to Hastings-on-Hudson and take the 0006 bus south. Which will stop right in front of the park entrance. ---- DINNER AFTER EVENT: Right across the street is Fontina, an Italian restaurant and brick oven pizza venue. It is a huge space that can easily accommodate our group. To make this even easier, please comment on your RSVP if you will be joining us for dinner or not. More info about Fontina: https://fortinapizza.com/yonkers/

  • Day Trip to the Moresca Open House and Brotherhood Winery
This is one of our more unique events and we hope there is a lot of interest as it should prove to be a magical day! We will be providing a van and transporting 13 witches and wizards to the Moresca Open House. Moresca is one of the premier Ren Faire garb designers. Three times a year they open their showroom to the public and have a huge sale. The showroom is an elaborate barn house with a grand hall and numerous fitting rooms. Plenty of staff are available to help you make your selections. Ana and I went several years ago and had an amazing time shopping for new garb. We will spend 3-4 hours at Moresca (or less as needed), before heading to a local restaurant for lunch (we are still working on the lunch location). Then we will head about an hour down the road to Brotherhood Winery. Brotherhood has several interesting things going for it. First, it is America's oldest continually operating winery, as it was not shut down during prohibition because they produced religious wine. Second, it is the producer of Carol's Mead! Which IMO is one of the better meads on the market and the mead of choice at the Tuxedo NY Ren Faire. We will take the Brotherhood Winery tour, and if you like, sample a tasting flight. PLEASE NOTE: RETURN TIME IS AN ESTIMATE. IF WE FINISH THE WINERY EARLIER WE CAN HEAD BACK TO NYC EARLIER. COST DETAILS: The only fee we will be charging is $27 per person for the van. Moresca does not charge admission to the open house. Lunch is for each person to pay on their own, we will aim to find a location that is reasonably priced. Brotherhood Winery has a few options that you can pay for when you are there (we are not handling the payments for this). Those options are: - Tour and Flight Tasting - $10 (includes wine glass) - Just the tour - $6 - Just wine tasting flight - $7 (includes wine glass) Obviously you must be 21+ to participate in the wine tasting, but there is no age restriction for the tour.
