What we're about

We call our group "EAGLE". It stands for "EMBRACING ASPERGER/AUTISM GIFTS AND LIFE EXPERIENCES". How do we do that? We meet together and share our interests, the things that bother us, have some food, watch some movies, play some games, and, Yes!, we exercise. Follow our schedule to see all our events and join us. We would love to get to know you!

Our EAGLE group is predominantly a social meeting place for people on the Autism/Asperger spectrum. We want to be a place where people can exchange ideas and feel safe. If members are having difficult situations, the group may offer suggestions. Other members may have had similar situations and could provide some help or insight. We do recruit some pre-doctoral students to help out with the group. They are NOT therapists. If the group does become aware of any illegal activity or self-harm potential, we will need to report it to the proper authorities. That may include parents and law enforcement. Participating in our group and activities implies your understanding of this disclaimer.

We typically meet the 1st and 3rd Sundays of the month. (Currently with COVID-19 restrictions we meet via Zoom)

The first Sunday of the month, we meet at the High Street YMCA. Start time is 4:00 PM and we go to about 6:00.

The third Sunday of the month, we meet at the Central Library. Start time is 2:30 PM and we end before 5:00 PM. Sometimes we go out for a meal afterward, depending of the whim of the group..

Please see the meetup for that specific date for more information.

We do restrict attendance to those age 18 and older. We keep content to a "PG-13" level, but it has worked out best to have the age restriction.

Upcoming events (4)

Hybrid meeting, Zoom and in-person. Venue is North YMCA. (Zoom Info below)

We will have both zoom and in-person meetings, this time.

Zoom Information should be shown when you respond to the invitation. If you have issues, please email [masked].

We will also meet in-person at the North YMCA in Lexington.
We will be at the outdoor pavilion, right next to the parking lot.
We will NOT have access to the bathrooms. If you have to go, get there early and use the indoor YMCA bathrooms before they close at 4:00PM.
Address is 381 W Loudon Ave, Lexington, KY

Please bring a chair if you have one. (I think they have tables, but not totally sure.)
Bring a board or outdoor game, if you want.
If weather is inclement, we will still have a roof over our heads.

We WILL be doing current COVID precautions. If you are closer than 6' to one another, wear a mask.
If unvaccinated, we suggest attending via zoom.

We start at 4 PM and go at-least until 5PM, but typically closer to 6PM.

Our meetings typically consist of meeting any new members and sharing a success and frustration since the last meeting. If you don't want to share, that's OK too.
Our activity is typically online games (jackbox, scribblio, etc.). Sometimes we watch shorter movies, movie shorts or shared videos and animations.
We used to meet in-person, but the pandemic has been keeping us on-line. That said, if someone doesn't live near Lexington, KY, they can still join us.

Rules: We intend to have all people have a chance to share. If someone is monopolizing the conversation, we will moderate if necessary.
We may discuss some adult issues, thus we want people 18 years or older. Discussions should be "PG-13" or better. We don't want to be crude.

Suggested equipment: The basic zoom meetings only need a phone, tablet or PC (with sound and microphone capabilities). The online games seem to work best with a separate tablet or a second PC screen. You are free to watch, if you don't want to play.

Possible future venues are still the Central Library for board games, movies, etc. or the High Street YMCA for exercise.

Zoom meeting until the end of this year (Zoom Info below)

Zoom meetings since things getting colder outside. (We are still trying to find an inside venue.)

Zoom Information should be shown when you respond to the invitation. If you have issues, please email [masked].
