What we're about
We call our group "EAGLE". It stands for "EMBRACING ASPERGER/AUTISM GIFTS AND LIFE EXPERIENCES". How do we do that? We meet together and share our interests, the things that bother us, have some food, watch some movies, play some games, and, Yes!, we exercise. Follow our schedule to see all our events and join us. We would love to get to know you!
We are a loose-knit group of people with Autism/Aspergers and their families. We provide an opportunity socially interact in a safe environment.
We typically meet the 1st and 3rd Sundays of the month.
The first Sunday of the month, we meet at the High Street YMCA. Start time is 4:00 PM and we go to about 5:30.
The third Sunday of the month, we meet at the Central Library. Start time is 2:30 PM and we end before 5:00 PM. Sometimes we go out for a meal afterward, depending of the whim of the group..
Please see the meetup for that specific date for more information.
The age range tends to be about 18 and older. We do realize there is also a need for a younger social group too, however it doesn't always work out just mashing different maturity levels together.
That said, all ages and family members are welcome at our movie times when at the Farish Theater. Younger individuals will need a parent present. That may be a good time for those parents to network and possibly start a parallel group to our existing group. Kay and I (Greg) are not able to provide leadership for a younger group. Please help us as we explore those options to help more people on the spectrum.
Suggestion to all: Some activities may create discussion topics or "learning opportunities". If parents or "mentor" adults are available, they are welcome to join us. Stephen and I have had good conversations after the movies. Some of that 1-on-1 conversation is good for people.
