Meetup : Expanding DevOps to Database Delivery

Dear Members,

We are pleased to announce the next Meetup dedicated to DevOps practices - interactions, organisations, tooling - applied to Database Delivery. Joel Oliveira and Nuno Alexandre Alves will be our speakers for this event.

Talks will include presentation plus live coding session. The first talk will present the Database versioning, tooling and interactions strategies. The second on the Testing and validation practices under a CI/CD environment. More details below.

The event is organized jointly with TICE.Leiria, supported by La Redoute. It will take place at the auditorium of the Mercado Santana in the Center of Leiria, look for the TICE.Leiria rollup and organizers.

Keep Your Schema Under Control
In application development lifecycle, teams have to deal with lots of database changes in several scenarios. The big challenge is to control all database changes without breaking functionality and deployment lifecyle.
This session will demonstrate how to use simple tools (like Flyway) to control and deploy your database changes in a multibranch environment.

Test Automation to Everyone
Is test automation to everyone? Even for non-technical testers? Or is it only to developers?
What do you need to learn? Do you need to learn a programming language?
Your manager requested metrics for test automation? What metrics should you use?
You already tried test automation and it failed… Does it really work outside of the PowerPoint world?

If you want to have the answers to these questions or if you have additional questions, join us in this talk. As an extra, you will also get familiar with the concepts of a test automation framework and how to use it to do web, mobile and API test automation.

Nuno Alexandre Alves

Nuno Alves is a Senior Database Administrator/Developer with a wide experience in database systems, being working in software engineering for more than 15 years. He has been a database developer and administrator for several projects, being responsible for analisys and creation of datamodels, data and schema migration, administration and maintenance. He has accumulated experience in different business sectors such as Finance, Government, Militar and Energy. Nuno is a graduated from Polytechnic Institute of Leiria.

Joel Oliveira

Joel Oliveira started his professional career in 1998 as a researcher and since then, he already assumed different roles (from developer to tester, from technical and project manager to quality and engineering manager), managing and leading teams from 1 to 130 engineers in business areas so diverse as telecommunications, government and public sector, financial services, defence and security or aerospace. In 2009, after a closer involvement with the software testing area, he founded the first online testing community in Portugal and one year later, the PSTQB – Portuguese Software Testing and Qualifications Board becoming a member of the ISTQB working groups in 2011.
