Welcome! The Tahoe-Sierra Standup Paddleboard Club was established for those who love to be active and love the water.
Standup paddle surfing is derived from its Polynesian roots. The Hawaiian translation is Ku Hoe He'e Nalu; to stand, to paddle, to surf, a wave. In standup paddleboarding (SUP), one can paddle on the open ocean, in harbors, on lakes, rivers or any large body of water. In the Tahoe and Sierra areas we are fortunate to have access to all of these water bodies.
This group will meet for a variety of paddles: recreation, touring, fitness training, and trips. Standard paddling locations are Lake Tahoe, Topaz Lake, Silver Lake, and Donner Lake. We also travel throughout the region for special trips to Mono Lake, Folsom Lake, the American River, Shasta Lake, the San Francisco Bay and Santa Cruz, to name a few.
During the peak summer season the club meets one a week in the evening and twice a month on weekends. In the winter the club meets as weather permits.
The club is for all levels of paddlers from first-time to elite racers. Everyone in the group is fun, adventurous and friendly. The club is a great way to make new friends with similar interests and to improve your paddling!
The club is sponsored by the local SUP business - Sierra Standup Paddleboard. On set meetup events they volunteer and provide instruction to new paddlers and provide food and drinks for picnics. Throughout the year they teach classes to give new paddlers a strong foundation in technique and safety and rent gear to those wanting to attend club events but haven't yet purchased their own gear. To join this Meetup please complete your profile and include your full name along with a photo for approval. We look forward to paddling with you! Aloha!
