This is the official Taiwan Adventures Meetup group. We lead hiking adventures to the high mountains of Taiwan and the more interesting outdoor adventures in the lower elevations. Join us for this edition of our favourite, high-mountain hike. If you have any problems, send an email to [masked] Snow Mountain is Taiwan's second highest mountain and one of the most beautiful. On the way to the summit, we'll cross another one of Taiwan's top 100 peaks, Snow Mountain East, and pass through the beautiful Black Forest before climbing the alpine cirque to reach the top. ***PRICE*** If you're a full time student or you've been on another overnight hike with us, the price is $8,500NTD. If this is your first hike with us, the price is $9,500NTD. ****ITINERARY**** Friday (October 16th) - Meet at 7pm in Taipei at Wanlong MRT Station Exit 2. Please be on time! From there we’ll drive to Wuling Farm. We'll camp at Wuling Farm for the night (the lower cabin is being renovated this year) Saturday (October 17th) - Up around 6am, breakfast and then hike up to the 369 Cabin, passing by Snow Mountain's East Peak. Sleep at the 369 Cabin. Sunday (October 18th) - Up early (~2am) and head to the main peak for sunrise. Hike back down to Wuling Farm and then drive back to Taipei. We expect to be back around 8pm. ****** IMPORTANT! ******* This hike may be very cold. We expect nighttime temperatures to be around 8 to 9 degrees, and possibly colder as we make our summit on the Sunday with added windchill. You will need cold weather clothes, and a good, down feather sleeping bag (we have some available to rent, let us know if you need one). *****WHAT WE WILL PROVIDE***** - Transport from Taipei to the mountain - Permits and accommodation - Cooking equipment and all meals (except Saturday lunch) - Maps and guide - Insurance *****WHAT YOU NEED TO BRING***** - At least a 40L backpack - Pack cover - Sturdy hiking boots - Fleece - Raincoat - Rain pants - 3 pairs of socks - Warm hat - Gloves - Sleeping bag (winter bag) - The ability to carry 2L of water - Headlamp (very important) - Toiletries and personal items - Sunscreen - Hiking Pole (this is a national park requirement in snow season) - Trousers (not jeans) If you have trouble getting anything, let us know and we'll see if we can help you out. Sleeping bags ($400 each) and hiking poles can be rented for a small additional fee. ($200 each). Dali-Datong Villages, Taroko Gorge Nov 6-8

Dali-Datong Trail

The villages of Dali and Datong are situated high in the mountains above the mouth of the Liwu River which runs through Taroko Gorge. Both villages are cut off from roads and the electricity grid and the aboriginal people who live up there grow their own food and hike supplies in. Saturday Nov 7th - We'll be up early to head to Taroko Gorge (about 1 hours drive). The hike begins with steep stairs with excellent views of the mouth of the Liwu River. After a few hours we'll arrive at the Dali Village From there it's a relatively easy flat walk along the old forestry road to Datong Village where we'll stay the night in a basic B&B. Sunday 22nd - Today's itinerary will depend on the group. There are two peaks that we can do. Both have great views of the Pacific Ocean. Due to the difficulty in getting permits, we rarely offer group trips to Yushan. Please read all the information below thoroughly and sign up soon, because the spaces will sell out quickly! This is an OVERNIGHT trip leaving Taipei on Saturday, November th and returning to Taipei on Monday November 9th. (If you work Monday to Friday, you’ll have to take Monday off) We consider this trip to be “luxury economical” because it’s as cheap as we can make it, and includes everything our private trips include. Included: Private transportation from and to Taipei for our group; All the meals for the whole trip; Your own bed* in a hotel on the first night; Native English speaking guide, permits, and insurance. If necessary, we can arrange a second pickup point in Taichung or Chiayi for our southern living friends. *We’ll be staying in private rooms in a hotel near Alishan. You will have your own bed in a room with 4 other people. We might not be able to have separate men’s and women’s rooms. If you’d like a private room, tell us, and we’ll see what we can do, but it will cost extra. The second night will be in Paiyun Cabin and will be mixed company and possibly mixed with another hiking group. ***PRICE*** If you're a full time student or you've been on another overnight hike with us, the price is $10,500TD pp. If this is your first hike with us, the price is $11,000NTD pp. We'll send you payment options after you sign up. ****ITINERARY**** Saturday (Nov 7th) - Meet at 2pm at Wanlong MRT Station, exit 2, Taipei. We'll drive for about 4 hours to Chiayi and have dinner. It’s another 1.5 hours to our hotel in Alishan. Meals Included: Dinner Sunday (Nov 8th) - Up around 7am, breakfast at the hotel and then drive 45 min to the trailhead. We’ll check in, then take the shuttle bus to the real trailhead. The hike to Paiyun Cabin is 8.5km and ~900m of vertical. It usually takes about 5 hours. Meals Included: Breakfast, lunch, dinner Monday (Nov 9th) - Up early (~2am) and head to the main peak for sunrise. Hike back down to Paiyun Cabin for an early brunch, hike to the trailhead, and then drive back to Taipei. We expect to be back around 6:00-7:00pm.
