OVERVIEW

http://taiwan-adventures.com/hikes-and-trips/high-mountain-hikes/nenggao-historic-trail/

This June 2017 we’ll be hiking the Nenggao Trail and camping near the Tianchi Cabin

The Nenggao Historic Trail is wonderful hike deep into the Taiwan’s Central Mountain Range. The trail was first used by aboriginal tribes for travel and trade. As the Japanese began to expand their influence in Taiwan during the occupation era, the trail was expanded and garrisoned. Finally in the 1950s the trail was used by the Taipower Company to build the east-west transmission lines. Nowadays the trial has been given over to hikers and cyclists alike and makes for a great 2/3 day hike.

ITINERARY

Friday June 23rd

Meet at 7pm at Wanlong MRT station, exit 2. We leave Taipei and head towards the central mountains. We spend the night at the small village of Wushe at a locally run B&B.

Saturday June 24th

We get up early in the morning and finish the drive to the trailhead. We then hike along the trail to the Tianchi Cabin crossing over the giant landslide and passing by the Haiyun Cabin, an old Japanese Police Station. There are plenty of suspension bridges, waterfalls and great views along the way. We will cabin next to the cabin

Sunday June 25th

From the Tianchi Pond there are two nearby peaks to visit, Cilai South Peak to the north and Nanhuashan to the south. Both offer amazing views of the surrounding mountains. After summiting, we pack up and hike back out.
