Mallow's Bay Shipwrecks and Camping Trip
In the shallow waters of this quiet bay on the Potomac lay one of the largest pieces of US Shipping History. Over 100 shipwrecks from WWI lay in spectral repose. Over 100 wooden steamships originally intended to support the war effort overseas are now abandoned wrecks in the bay. TIOA will travel to southern Maryland to paddle among these relics. Although the fleet has been destroyed, we will paddle over and among the hulks of these ships, witnessing the transformation from pre-industrial ship building to nature's reclamation. Aside from the ship remains, this area supports a diverse marine ecosystem including eagles ospreys, and many aquatic and semi-aquatic flowers. We will leave Saturday morning and travel to a southern Maryland. We will launch in the bay just after low tide for the greatest ship exposure. As the tide comes in, the ships will slip beneath the water line and we can paddle above some of them. We may be able to explore some other bluffs in the areaand search for shark teeth. That night, we will setup camp, enjoy food and a relaxing evening. The next morning, we break camp, explore the estuarine Mattawoman Creek, then head home. See you soon!!

NOTE - A lot of planning goes into the trips we run. Please be considerate of all the members and the organizers of the group and do not be a "No Show". I know that sometimes issues spring up (family issues, medical, work, etc.) and that is completely understandable. In those cases please send a message saying you won't be able to make it. If you don't plan on attending, don't intend to mark it on your calendar or don't intend to make a best effort to come to the event please, please, please do not RSVP "yes" until you are ready.

    Thank you much!!
