Spring Training Hike #1 -- LaBarge Box and Battleship Mountain
Hi everyone, This Sunday (likely the last cool weekend day for a while), I am leading a torturous trek to the top of Battleship Mountain, with a stop at the LaBarge Box. This is a very strenuous but equally rewarding trip of 12 miles and accumulated 2,300 ft elevation gain. Included at no additional charge are miles of riverbed boulder hopping, tough scrambling, challenging climbing, and narrow exposed ledge crossing. This hike isn't for the faint of heart, but for those who go, it will reward you with panoramic views and an experience you won't soon forget. You can choose not to climb Battleship Mountain, but even the trek to LaBarge Box requires a significant amount of oomph and scrambling skills. Therefore, only experienced hikers should attempt this hike. Time and Place: Sunday March 25, 8 am Canyon Lake Marina on AZ88, park by the fence next to road. Bring: 4L (a gallon) of water per person, and water filter if you have one picnic lunch, trail snacks light jacket or windbreaker sunblock, bandana long pants or zip-off (there might be some brush) change of clothes for after the hike Dogs might have trouble with this one, so please leave at home. Hope you can join me on this epic adventure. Charles

What we're about

Public Group

Take a Hike is an outdoor club for active adults in Arizona. We go on many hikes, but also do all other outdoor activities including camping, backpacking, kayaking, mountain biking, skiing, sailing, 4-wheeling, and more. Whatever outdoor activity you're into, we'll do it! Our hikes range very much in difficulty and location. We have easy, moderate, and difficult hikes. We hike locally, all over the state, and beyond. We meet at 7:00 pm Wednesday nights at Old Chicago - SW corner of Alma School and the US-60 in Mesa, in the Banquet Room. You DONT need to go to the meetings to participate in our group. The meetings are mostly just a chance to get together and socialize, although we do discuss past and upcomming trips. Best of all, unlike other meetup groups, this one is not driven by the group leader. This club is MEMBER DRIVEN. Anyone who wants to lead a trip may do so. Just decide where you'd like to go and when you want to meet and email me or any of the other officers the info. We will put your trip on the calendar and post the description. I will not be doing any editing so please include all pertinent information.
