Let's start the new year off right away with a fun photo excursion! Chinatown has vibrant energy and is full of great photo opportunities everywhere you look. But how do you know what will make a great photo? Join us and discover some simple ways to make your abstract photos have greater power and impact. In just the first 5 minutes you will discover something that will change the way you see and shoot from this point on.
Lots of you have been requesting a class about abstract photography so I have developed a new workshop. I will cover the basics first:
Composition Color Texture Form Then I will give you a series of fun activities like a scavenger hunt searching for different visual elements like text, graffiti, architectural details etc... You will learn some simple tips you can use right away to take better abstract photos.
One definition I have found is: Abstract photography is photography which contains a design of patterns or shapes where the identity of a subject is not easily evident.
Our response to an abstract photo often goes something like this. Wow that is beautiful, what is it? These photos delight us because of their visual impact. They are not necessarily "about" anything in terms of a story or narrative. But they do evoke a feeling, mood or response in the viewer like an abstract painting.
I hope you will join us to explore the exciting creative world of abstract photography in Chinatown. All levels are welcome. This is about creative seeing, not about anything technical. A point and shoot camera or iPhone is fine. I will provide a few more details about what to bring once I have the full class list.
The closest T stop is Chinatown on the Orange Line. There are also several public parking lots in Chinatown. You should not plan on finding street parking since this is very difficult on weekends and I don't want you to miss the beginning of the class searching for parking. We will meet at the famous Chinatown Gate pictured here. At the end of class we will go for tea and fortune cookies to warm up and look a the photos of the day. You will meet some great people so I hope you will join us!
