Marketing should be on the mind of every business owner from the beginning, not as an after-thought. Strong branding, positioning, packaging, word choice, social media, website ... the discipline of marketing can be hard to manage but it’s a critical part of business strategy.

Following our discussion of product development, where we touched briefly on packaging as a piece of the product development cycle and our discussion of how to move through and market within the medical supply chain, we’ll move to a discussion of how to manage marketing. If you’ve noticed language used in the world of entrepreneurship, you’ll be familiar with the concept of “customer discovery” and the grueling process burgeoning companies should go through before even developing a prototype – and continue throughout the life of their business. If you’ve sought funding or even thought about it, you’ll be well aware of the importance of solid, documented market research.
