What we're about

Welcome South & East Bay nerds! This is a place to openly discuss whatever things you nerd out over. You can go to events with fellow nerds in your niche or learn something new from those with different hobbies. There is no wrong way to nerd out but it sure is fun to do it with fellow fans and friends.

Since this is a new group there is plenty of room to plan and adjust for the things you want to do.

Yearly membership fee is $5:
Alternatively Venmo $5 to @Roxy-Lamp or pay in person. It will be tracked through Meetup & 30 trial days pro-rated if paid early. Do whatever you are most comfortable with. Once received we will send a discord link.

Expected Question: Why are you trying to charge me money?! Other Meetups are free.
Answer: Meetup charges a monthly fee and it ain't cheap. The group as a whole should contribute to keep things running. The minimum ask for this is $5 a year. We hope you feel like the community is worth it. ALL fees will go to the monthly Meetup cost and any extra to helping host events.

Organizers Info:

Roxy - My nerdoms of choice are anime and cosplay. I also enjoy board games, RPG’s, D&D, Webtoons, and intense cat momming. My boyfriend Bo loves Overwatch, Starcraft, airsoft, and bouldering. He will most likely be coerced…I mean love to help host events for that.

Andrew - I can talk for hours on a wide array of games and several movie genres/anime. I love online games like Overwatch and Hearthstone and console games like Kingdom Hearts and Resident Evil. I’m good with setting up and my girlfriends good at connecting with people. The dream team.

Cindy - I am a (indie) gamer so ask me anything if you need game recommendations & etc! Looking forward to hosting comic book-related events, food events, outdoor events, educational events, and of course, scheming "intense"/adrenaline-related activities (occasionally).

Regan - Said like vegan but with an "r". I'm here to host various online screenings and anime events. Drop in to discover all kinds of interesting anime to watch while laughing and chatting along with your fellow nerds.

Some events to look forward to :

- Hosting screening both virtually online and in person
- Board game meetups
- Discussing and attending movie screening (help you find anime stuff in theaters)
- Gaming IRL series- Adventurous things like airsoft, escape rooms, and climbing
- Gaming together both online and in person
- Hosting dinner, tea, coffee, or dessert meetups
- Work on crafts together. Things like cosplay, knitting, drawing, etc.
- Meeting up at conventions and public events

1. Safety & Harassment:

Safety and positivity are important here. Please respect your fellow members. Don’t pressure others to divulge private information. Feel free to message admins or event hosts if there is an issue. We want to keep this community a place for healthy debate, discussion, and friendship. Coordinators have every right to remove or those who violate this (preferably with warnings prior). Fortunately some social awkwardness and bad pun humor is to be expected. This is going to be a group of big ole’ nerds.

2. Event No Notice - No Show : Full events with limited space follow a no notice - no show policy. If you don’t show up or update your RSVP you may be removed or waitlisted in future space-limited events. Event coordinators have the right to set their own rules on a per event basis. In general it is polite to update your RSVP so those generous enough to host know who to expect.

3. Discussions:
Please keep personal discussions in the DMs or relevant event comments. Let’s use the discussion board to garner actual discussions and/or interest in planning events. That said don’t be afraid to express yourself. We want to know what you are interested in!

Meetup automatically sets your privacy settings for messaging and announcements. Please consider changing it so you can keep tabs on events and receive announcements & messages.

NorCal Cosplay Ball: Fallapalooza

The Rose Ballroom

These events are awesome! I have been and it feels like being at a mini-con but without the crazy ticket prices. They take professional photos, offer snacks/drinks, have raffles & events, and even teach some ballroom dancing. Cosplay is not required but you are free to go all out. Just note you want to be comfortable to dance and move. Avoid bringing big props and don't dress overly casual (jeans, filp-flops, t-shirts etc.) as it is a ball. there is even a cosplay contest! It's super fun to learn some ballroom dancing to the tunes of various anime and gaming music. I don't mind purchasing tickets for you directly. It's $10 up until the end of 9/20/19. You can purchase tickets quickly on Eventbrite for $12.24 or it will be $15 at the door.
