Help create a parade float to engage more people to participate in democracy. This community art project will reach out to youth and people of color and invite their ideas on how to create a better world. We will present these ideas through art, music, and technology, with colorful artworks and performances, staged on a decorated trailer. Our art float will be featured on Earth Day, Memorial Day and 4th of July parades in Marin County. We also plan to bring it to California’s Central Valley in fall 2018, to encourage people to vote in the midterm elections.

We’re building this float with students and adult makers led by Fabrice Florin and Geo Monley at Tam Makers, our makerspace at Tam High School in Mill Valley. We will also work with art, civic and education partners to reach a diverse community in California and beyond. Would you like to help create or present this float? Come to our welcome meeting on March 1 at 5pm, at the Tam High Wood Shop. We will show our new designs, discuss how you how can participate, and create our first models together. Please RSVP here if you can come. Our makerspace is in the wood shop at Tamalpais High School, at the top of the campus: 700 Miller Ave, Mill Valley, CA 94941.

If you like, you can help us build the float every Thursday from 4 to 9pm, starting March 15 -- and every Saturday from 10am to 1pm in April (see schedule). Come whenever you want during those times, but please email us first at [masked], so we know who’s coming.

You can help in a variety of ways: make art posters or signs, build float parts, engineer them, paint them, coordinate volunteers, perform short songs or poems, take photos and videos, promote and host our shows. To volunteer, sign up here.
