Synoc Labs Presents: Introduction to Blockchains by Joe Blankenship

Synoc Lab @ Synergy Internet Business Center is proud to host the first of a series of presentations and workshops dedicated to the blockchain/cryptocurrency space. Here we will be exploring the latest ideas and developments happening in this innovative technology and help incubate projects building on top of it.

Here is a summary of our introductory presentation.

Blockchains and cryptocurrencies are increasingly used, implemented and adapted for numerous purposes; people and businesses are integrating these technologies into their practices and strategies, creating new political economies and spaces in everyday life. This presentation focuses on the development of geographic theory for the study of blockchain technologies through the research of Joe Blankenship on Bitcoin and Ethereum. The research situates blockchain technologies within the wider discussions on political economy, material-spatial practices, code/space, and network society through an examination of human/machine relations. The results and analysis develop an understanding of how systemic mechanisms and actant actions driving blockchain technologies are indications of new evolutions in our conceptions of space and place in everyday life of later informational capitalism.
