UUC Humanists are pleased to invite you to our April meeting for a presentation by Robert Palin titled “Human or Humanimal?: An Epicurean Perspective.” You may be surprised to learn about the transformative ideas of the Greek philosopher, Epicurus.

Our speaker, a retired minister, Robert Palin earned a BA from Middlebury College, a Master of Divinity from Union Theological Seminary, NYC, and a Doctor of Ministry from New York Theological Seminary. Serving churches large and small for 42 years in VT, CT, MA, NY, VA, PA, and FL as settled and as interim minister in the United Church of Christ, Robert also spent five years in secular work with a hospice in Charlottesville and in two departments at the University of Virginia. Since retiring in 2012 he has re-visited Greek philosophies, particularly Platonic, Epicurean and Stoic. While moving away from traditional Christianity, the inspiration of wonder, awe and mystery continue to motivate him. Artistic expression also communicates what he values, particularly music as an accomplished pianist. We are indeed fortunate to have Robert share his insights to the world and philosophy of Epicurus.

This presentation will be on Sunday, April 28 in the Octagon, 2470 Nursery Road in Clearwater. It will begin at 12:30. You are welcome to join us for lunch at Carrabba’s immediately following.
