Humanistic Jewish Perspectives on Intermarriage

Details
Intermarriage is often prohibited or stigmatized in many cultures and religions, including in more traditional denominations of Judaism. In this meetup, we will learn about some of the perspectives Humanistic Judaism has to offer on the value of intermarriage, and discuss ways we can become even more inclusive of intermarried families.
A recent issue of the Society for Humanistic Judaism’s magazine is devoted to the topic: https://shj.org/wp-content/uploads/2020/06/HJMagSpring2020-full.pdf,
and this piece in Jewish Currents talks about rape culture and sexual harassment on Birthright trips, including how a focus on inmarriage/procreation/continuity can result in sexual violence in Jewish spaces: https://jewishcurrents.org/birthright-israel-and-metoo/.
Feel free to read all, some, or none of these articles in advance of the meeting; share any other reference materials you recommend; and bring your own questions and ideas on the subject. We look forward to a lively discussion!
As always, there will be a brief introduction for those who may be new to this branch of Judaism, which affirms that people are responsible for making the world a better place independent of any supernatural authority. All are welcome!
