Cohousing is a type of collaborative housing in which residents actively participate in the design and operation of their own neighborhoods.

Cohousing residents are consciously committed to living as a community. The physical design encourages both social contact and individual space. Private homes contain features of conventional homes, but residents also have access to common facilities such as open space, courtyards, a playground and a common house.

The Tampa Bay Cohousing group supports building strong, self-sufficient communities, centered around environmentally friendly design and efficient, secure structures.

In a cohousing community, you know who lives six houses down because you eat common meals with them, decide how to allocate homeowners dues and gratefully accept a ride from them when your car’s in the shop. You begin to trust them enough to leave your 4-year-old with them. You listen to what they have to say, even if you don’t agree with them at first, and you sense that you, too, are being heard.

Cohousing residents generally aspire to “improve the world, one neighborhood at a time.”

and

- a new cohousing community near Temple Terrace, FL is developing 4.5 acres with 25 homes. 10+ households have become members and chosen sites, with others considering, on the way to 25!

The core group welcomes new people to join/design the community. We have worked with an architect to design our houses and neighborhood. We now have seven house plans for homes ranging from 1-4 bedrooms. (Some interior customization is possible.) See the latest house sketches at https://harmonyterrace.org/house-designs/ along with the site plan at https://harmonyterrace.org/our-preliminary-site-plan/
Enough is in place to expand our outreach, with intent to build diversity.

We have hybrid meetings, with onsite/in person at our Community House on Thursdays at 7:00 PM ET and also by remote access via Zoom. (Meetings used to be on Sundays.) Please RSVP and have a chat with Marla before attending. (RSVP and get details.)

Our Thursday meetings are part of a tight schedule for breaking ground in Spring 2023, with move-in Summer/Fall 2023. We have conferred with the Hillsborough County Planning Board about our submission for a Planned Development. We will have a hearing with the Hillsborough County Zoning Master on 1/17/23 and the "Land Use" meeting with the Board of County Commissioners will happen Mar. 14, 2023.

Note: This Meetup announcement is especially for people who are new to Harmony Terrace Cohousing. Now you know about the group (!) and its regular/public weekly meeting. Core/current group members will also attend (i.e. they don't show as Meetup attendees), and additional meetings/plannings occur during the week. Harmony Terrace incorporates "consent" in its decision-making process.
