What we're about

This group is for new and relatively new parents that are passionate about the outdoors, who would like to get their children excited about being active outside from a young age and share the experience with other like-minded and adventurous families. Kids tend to enjoy activities if they see other kids having fun, too. The 0-5 age range is a time of great cognitive, social, and emotional development. Play outside has numerous benefits for children, supporting their problem solving skills and nurturing their creativity. In addition, research has shown that children participating in regular outdoor play are happier, healthier, and stronger kids. Activities may include (but not be limited to) nature walks, stroller hikes, cycling, paddling, paddlefit baby, picnicking, fishing, camping, and unstructured outdoor explorational play at the park, nature preserve, beach, or lake shore. We have plenty of great options in this fantastic state! Each child must have at least one parent/guardian present who will be responsible for the safety of that child. Older siblings are welcome to join in on the fun; however, activities will be tailored to the 0-5 year age range and at least one child in each family attending must be in that age range.

Activities will primarily take place in Hillsborough County. Given the young age range, most events will be centered at one location so that participants have the ability to leave and re-join the group as needed and/or leave early if the need arises. Circuit-based activities that will not be as flexible with the time commitment involved, such as hikes in a loop or paddling down a river with different entry and exit points, will be indicated as such in the activity description. Members are expected to know the limits of their individual children, plan for events accordingly, and recognize when it is time to head back in, regardless of what the rest of the group is doing.

***Note that there are member dues associated with this meetup ($3.00 annually). Dues are in place to cover the meetup fees. Anything extra is used for pavilion rentals and site reservations. Trial membership is free for the first month, after which time, meetup automatically boots members that have not paid their dues. Payment of dues is done online by going to the Member Dues field in the left column. No one is policing this, so please make sure you have settled up on time!***

And now, the requisite legal stuff:

Outdoor activities can involve significant risks. Children are especially susceptible to outdoor hazards, such as heat stress, insect bites/stings and bites from wildlife or dogs, injuries, and drowning/hypothermia when activities are located near bodies of water. Injury, both personal and property, may occur while travelling to or from a TOTs activity. All participants in a TOTs activity - you, family members and guests - by participation in a TOTs activity, acknowledge awareness of the risks, foreseen and unforeseen, which are inherent in each meet-up's activities and cannot be eliminated without destroying the unique character of the activity. These inherent risks include, but are not limited to, the dangers of serious personal injury, property damage, and death from participation in or travel to and from the activity.

This meet-up group and its organizers do not, in any way, claim to be professionals or otherwise licensed, certified, trained, etc. to provide any service. TOTs activity organizers are not trained in extensive emergency medical procedures and are not responsible for the safety or supervision of your children. There is no claim to be professional outfitters and members are solely responsible for bringing all appropriate equipment and gear. Since many TOTs activities occur near and/or on the water, by participating in a TOTs activity you are acknowledging that you are aware and understand that in the event of a serious medical emergency, treatment may be delayed depending on the remoteness of the location.

Participation in any TOTs meet-up activity is always your own choice and at your own risk. By participating in a TOTs meet-up event, you, your family members, and your guests (all participants) fully understand and accept all risks and agree to forever release, hold harmless and indemnify TOTs and activity organizers, as well as their families, from any injury, damages or death resulting from participation in an activity. To the fullest extent allowed by law, you agree to WAIVE, DISCHARGE CLAIMS, AND RELEASE FROM LIABILITY the TOTs Meet-up Group and its Organizers from any and all liability on account of, or in any way resulting from injuries, personal or property, and while participating in or travelling to or from the Activity.

In short, by participating in a TOTs activity you accept and assume all risks and full responsibility for losses, costs, and damages for your children, yourself, and your guests.
