Writing Custom Geoms for ggplot2 - A Trip Through the Grid Graphics Forest

ggplot2 is extremely flexible; you can take existing stats and gloms and build a large variety of graphs. However, sometimes you find yourself with an itch you just have to scratch and you wind up wanting to write a custom geom that you can add to ggplot2 and have it fit in with the other geoms and stats. In this talk I will cover the basics of writing two custom geoms - one toy illustration, and one with a real application. Along the way I’ll talk bout grid graphics / ggplot2 object system and spend a little time on aesthetics and settings. This will be fun.
