This is the monthly meeting of Tampa Stoics. We meet on the Second Friday of each month.
We'll discuss the classic by Marcus Aurelius, "Meditations", Book 6. In this meeting, we'll discuss the directing mind (the use of reason) and some famous quotes like “The best revenge is not to be like your enemy.”
In general, Stoicism teaches us how to handle difficult people and events, how to avoid anger and worry, and overall to use moderation in all aspects of our lives. We will discuss how Stoic practice can lead to a meaningful and tranquil life.
I'll prepare an outline of discussion points so you don't have to pre-read the book. If you'd like to read ahead (optional), see the links below.
"Meditations" is the personal diary of Rome's "Good" Emperor, written down while he was traveling from[masked] AD. It consists of 12 books (5-10 pages each), and is considered by some as the greatest volume on Stoic philosophy.
