Make your iPhone recognize images and objects with ARKit and machine learning!

Details

Have you ever wanted to code up an app that uses machine learning, but had no idea where to begin? If so, you’ll definitely want to check out the next Tampa iOS Meetup.

In this session, we’ll build not one, but TWO apps that harness the power of ARKit (the augmented reality SDK) and Core ML (the machine learning framework):

  1. An app that recognizes movie posters and displays information about their movies, and
  2. An app that recognizes real-world objects and labels them by name (as shown in the photo above).

The demos in this meetup will be the same as the ones that Joey will present at his big iOS augmented reality workshop at the RWDevCon developer conference taking place in April in Washington, D.C.. The difference is that you won’t have to part with $1500 to see them!

• What to bring
This meetup will be a “code along with me” exercise. That means you’ll need to bring...

  1. A Mac laptop with the latest Xcode 9 beta (Xcode 9.3 beta 3) installed.
  2. An ARKit-ready iPhone or iPad (anything from the iPhone 6S and later will do. If you don’t have one, I’ll have a spare that I’ll pass around) that’s running the latest beta of iOS 11.3.

• Important to know
Nobody learns well on an empty stomach, so we’ll provide pizza, soft drinks, and water, courtesy of my employer, our venue-provider and sponsor: Sourcetoad!
