Hey Russell... have you decided not to do these at SG any more or just adding venues for SWEEP?

Hope you are well.  I need to get your container from soup back to you!

Announcing a new Meetup for The Tampa Chapter of the Society for the Exploration of Play!

What: 01/14 At Dishtopia - Blokus, Bananagrams, Jungle Speed, and Can't Stop!

When: Thursday, January 14,[masked]:00 PM

Dishtopia & The Anytime Tea Bar
3401 Henderson Blvd
Tampa, FL 33609
[masked]-DISH (3474)

Hi, Explorers!

Starting with this event, we're going to start playing games in some new places, while still supporting our friends and host at our current locations. Watch for upcoming notices for our meetings, as things are changing!

We're going to start a new game series at Dishtopia - located just west of downtown Tampa. We'll be playing there on alternating Thursday nights, starting with this event on January 14th.

Dishtopia & The Anytime Tea Bar features a wide selection of excellent loose teas, prepared hot (or cold) and fresh for you! And participants who visit during our Meetup and play games will get a 10% discount on beverage purchases!

Here's what's on our list for our first game night at Dishtopia:

Bananagrams: Banangrams won the prize for 2009 Game of the Year - does that make them the "Top Banana?" In this game, everybody plays at the same time, building their own crossword style spelling puzzle. Once all the starting tiles have been placed, the players begin drawing tiles one at a time from the supply. The first person to complete their words when the last tile is drawn wins the game! This is a very fast game, and you may find yourself wanting to play several games once you get started.

Jungle Speed: This is a game of lighting quick reflexes, pattern matching, and lots of laughs. Everybody has a stack of devlishly designed cards in front of them. One card at a time is revealed, and if two players have matching pictures on their cards, they must race to grab the wooden totem in the center of the table. The slower players takes the faster players face-up cards, unless the faster player has made a mistake, in which case that player takes *everybody's* cards. The first person to get rid of all of their cards wins the game.

Blokus: This very pretty abstract game has won a lot of awards since it was released, and two new versions have been released that build on the original idea. Players take turns placing pieces built out of square shapes, using very simple placement rules. Players try to place all of their pieces on the board, or if they can't, to place more than anybody else.

Can't Stop: This is a classic release from one of America's first "euro" style game designers, Sid Sackson. This is a "push your luck" dice game, and players will be rolling dice to race to the top of the columns. First player who makes it to the top of three of the 11 columns wins the game. But be careful - you might find that once you start, you just Can't Stop.

Join us and enjoy learning some great new games!
