Gardening bee
We'll be making (and potentially shifting) compost this weekend, tidying up the area around our fruit trees, and whatever else needs doing! There may be some leeks ready for harvest, too. Alison and her grandson helped themselves to some this past weekend! Cameron is hosting this weekend. Please do come along and have a chat to him, Alison, and Jeremy; remember, this is YOUR community garden and we want to hear what you want from it! Everyone's ideas are welcome. Last week, we fed the corn, tomato and cucumber/zucchini plants. We also had a number of new and old faces turn up, including overseas tourists. The Tawa Community Garden is a great place to have a catch-up while meeting new people and getting your hands dirty. Anyway, see ya all on Saturday! :)

    What we're about

The Tawa Community Garden is about growing food as well as community connections. We've been in existence since 2014 and have been operating continuously from our garden in Coronation Park, Tawa, since 2015. We have a devoted and knowledgeable core group of gardeners, but we're always looking to expand our volunteer numbers. Anyone from the northern suburbs of Wellington and Porirua is welcome to attend. We invite gardeners of all ages to participate, with the only requirement being that you need to bring your own gloves (and a williness to muck in!). The group is quite casual, with a non-hierarchal power structure. We make decisions by consensus at our monthly planning meetings held in the Doris Mills Lounge of the Linden Social Centre. Everyone is invited to contribute their ideas, know-how, and positive energy. We often grow more food than we can eat, so even if you find gardening too physically demanding please do come along occasionally for the fresh (and free!) produce.
