What we're about

We're a community of thinkers and learners seeking to think constructively, connect meaningfully, and act purposefully in our society. We recognize the autonomous technologies, runaway markets and weaponized media are overturning civil society and we want to offer the world something better.

We know that being human is a team sport, and that we can't be fully human alone. So let's practice what we preach. Let’s Meetup!

Already a listener of Douglas Rushkoff’s Team Human Podcast? You’ve found the others.

We have two monthly events. One is a topical conversation lead by a special guest. Through these conversation we're hearing new ideas, being challenged, and finding opportunities for action. The second monthly event is a casual conversation time and opportunity to be together with like-minded others.

All Meetups involve hacking the machine to make it more compatible with humanity, and helping redefine what it means to be human in a digital age. We’ll share high-level ideas and discuss what we can do in our daily lives to facilitate change.

Mike and Josh will kick this group off, but will evolve it into a collaborative environment. If you’re interested in stepping-up, Message us and let us know!

Bjarke Calvin with Team Human: Creating social media for storytelling

Each month we're hosting a guest to lead a conversation of shared interest that reflects the Team Human values. This month we'll talk with Bjarke Calvin, founder of Duckling and fellow at MIT Open Doclab. Bjarke advocates for a new model of social media he calls "Insights". His social media platform Duckling aims to empower participants with a deeper understanding of themselves and the world. Bjarke has long been a leader in interactive storytelling and aims to reposition social media for a world aware of the biases embedded into our current social media monsters. We'll use this time together to explore the intention and Duckling and collaboratively put it through the rigors of Team Human. Learn more about Duckling here: https://www.duckling.co/ Check some content from Douglas here: https://duckling.me/rushkoff/ Browse more: https://www.duckling.co/showroom.html We'll start the event meeting and catching-up. Our guest will share some of their work and then have a discussion on the topic/issue they're presenting. Our goals for these events are to hear and share new ideas, challenge ourselves and others, and be able to leave the event with opportunities for ground-level action.

Bill Ottman with Team Human

Meetup HQ, 10th Floor

Each month we're hosting a guest to lead a conversation of shared interest that reflects the Team Human values. This month we'll welcome Internet entrepreneur and freedom of information activist Bill Ottman. Bill founded minds.com, an open source and decentralized social network where users earn crypto tokens for their activity on the network. This direct compensation for site activity is intentionally modeled to counter traditional social media platforms like Facebook or Twitter. This opens up an interesting conversation on the convergence of the social and the marketplace, as well as alternative financial models for web startups. We can explore Minds' "open" content policies relative to other social networks. Check-out Bill's minds.com profile here: https://www.minds.com/ottman We'll start the event meeting and catching-up. Our guest will share some of their work and then have a discussion on the topic/issue they're presenting.
