• Beginner-friendly marathon/half-marathon training run & brunch social - Davis Sq

    Hello everyone, Please note the change of time (8:30 AM) for this Saturday. We will continue meeting at the Davis Sq location. Plan on arriving 10 minutes early to find (free) parking spot and the team. Address 18 Holland Street, Somerville, MA 02144. For those who take the T, look for Au Bon Pain after you get out of the Davis Square T stop. Let us also continue the brunch social after the run this time. Parking: There is plenty of free street parking (no meters) along Holland Street about two blocks away from Au Bon Pain (at around 124 Holland Street, Somerville). Also, please remind us to show you additional free parking spots nearby when you arrive at the starting line. About the Saturday runs: please do make sure to join the group runs as frequently as possible, especially during the first few months. A ton of information is shared by the coach and alum runners. Note that the running pace, etc., doesn't matter for now. Use this time to develop the foundation and push the mileage roughly 10% every week. Group run logistics: Please come prepared for a run (or run/walk). Leave your bags, etc. at home or in your car so that you can run easily. Please make sure to arrive 10 minutes early to sign in, warm up, etc. Coach will brief you at the beginning of the run about the distance and direct you through stretching exercises. It is absolutely OK to run/walk in the beginning. Many of us are first-time runners. So please don’t be shy :-). Route for this week: Suggested mileage: 3.5 miles to 7 miles (or, 1 mile longer than your last weekend long run). We will be on the Minuteman trail this week (out and back along the same trail). So... you can easily adjust your target mileage based on your comfort level. We will also have some Gatorade and water at about mile 3, in addition to the fountains along the trail. Program overview: TeamAIDAsha is a beginner-friendly marathon/half-marathon training and fund-raising program. We train runners for their full or half marathon races and runners raise donations for Association for India's Development and Asha for Education. Both beginner and experienced runners are welcome. Anyone is welcome to RSVP and join us for the group runs up to four time with no obligations. We request formal registrations after attending four group runs.
