Microaggressions in the Workplace

Details
Let’s face it. You’ve probably had some stuff said to you at work that made you feel crappy. But did the person who said it know how crappy it actually was? Microaggressions are small, often seemingly harmless comments that can make people in any kind of underrepresented community feel out of place or talked down to. Maybe you’ve observed this behavior from other coworkers, but haven’t known how to go about correcting them? This session is for folks of all genders, races, sexual orientations, and ages who want to be a little more conscious about the way they treat one another. You’ll leave with plenty of examples of how to recognize microaggressions and how to deal, whether you’re the recipient, the supplier, or the passer-by.

ABOUT THE PRESENTER:
Megan Boczar has been a software developer since way back in November 2017. She worked a ton of customer service and admin jobs before finally jumping into a bootcamp at Grand Circus in Detroit. After landing a job as a dev in Ann Arbor, she took on a new passion for accessibility and good front end design. Megan currently works as a Salesforce Developer at Pluralsight. She now serves as a co-founder and Director of Learning for tech[inclusive], a non-profit organization providing safe and accessible learning opportunities and networking events for underrepresented people in tech and their allies.
When she's not coding, Megan enjoys playing board games, keeping up on Netflix, and attempting to read one book per week. Megan loves all manner of nerdy things Star Wars to Buffy to Dungeons and Dragons.
