This is the first iteration of our weekly Hacktoberfest session! Every week, we will host a speaker that will do a talk about Open Source, collaboration or related. After that, an open source maintainer will come and introduce us to his project, and how people can help and contribute to it.

For this first week, Marit Van Dijk (https://twitter.com/MaritvanDijk77) will come and talk about collaboration in Open Source!

In this talk I will share my experience with contributing to Cucumber, including an early mistake (merging something that wasn't ready yet) and fixing it with the support of core maintainers, and still feeling welcome! You'll learn how how to find your project and contributions to start with, how to connect with the community to make sure your contributions are useful and the many different types of contributions you can make.

Stéphane has 20 years of experience in software engineering with a strong focus on API development on the JVM. After having spent more than a decade developing large scale Java enterprise applications in the geospatial, financial, or logistics sectors, he joins the core Spring Framework development team in 2014. Currently, Stéphane works on Spring Boot and leads start.spring.io, a service that helps millions of users start their next application.
