Machine Learning with Turi Create

Machine Learning with Turi Create

Details

Join us for the 1st meetup of the fall to learn about and have fun with Machine Learning with Turi Create. Late last year, Apple released Turi Create open source to the public. Turi Create (formerly GraphLab Create) is a toolset for creating machine learning models for tasks such as image classification, object detection, style transfers, recommendations, etc. The output of the models is in CoreML form, ready to be used by an iOS app.

We will go through the process of using Turi Create to build and use a model in an iOS app. We will use python code and Google Colaboratory, a free Jupyter notebook environment that requires no setup and runs entirely in the cloud to run all the examples that we explore. So you can load the examples in your browser and follow along / experiment live without any setup from you.

Agenda:
6:30 - 6:45p - Socialize and/or grab food next door at Galleria 7 Market (http://www.galleria7market.com/)
6:45 - 8:15p - Exploring Turi Create with Google Colab examples and iOS app demo
8:15 - 8:30p - Socialize and talk about future meetups

Here are some of the tasks available for us to explore:
Recommender - provide personalized recommendations to users
Image Classification - given an image, the goal of an image classifier is to assign it to one of a pre-determined number of labels
Object Detection - simultaneously classifying (what) and localizing (where) object instances in an image
Style Transfer - stylistic elements of a style image are imitated onto a new image while preserving the content of the new image
Image Similarity given an image, find "similar" images
Regression - learning a functional relationship between input features and an output target using training data
Clustering - grouping data so that points in the same cluster are highly similar to each other
Text Classifier - use of natural language processing (NLP) techniques to extract subjective information such as sentiment

Target Audience
One of the major points of Turi Create was to make creating and deploying machine learning models easier. So this meetup is open to all. There will be Python code and talk about machine learning topics. Questions are always welcome.

The Organizer
Jacob Madden is a world traveler and technologist focused on machine learning and augmented reality with experiences in enterprise software development and robotics.

The Venue
NexGen Indoor Golf Center (http://nexgengolfcenter.com) is a new venue for the meetup, located on the border of Colonie and Latham on Route 7. NexGen lets customers play golf indoors using super advanced simulators. You'll be able to take some golf swings if you want to try it out.

If anyone has recommendations for future venues please message Jacob Madden.
