Government tech
Join us in October for an event looking at what sort of interesting tech for good the Government is up to. Hear from John Fitzpatrick - Senior Digital Service Manager at Her Majesty's Prison and Probation Service and Vimla Appadoo - Service designer at FutureGov. We'll have the usual drinks and food, and a chance to socialise and connect. SPEAKERS ****John Fitzpatrick - Senior Digital Service Manager at Her Majesty's Prison and Probation Service**** John is sharing his teams story of modernising services in HMPPS Digital. He will focus on how modern research design and delivery are landing in prison and probation. We created HMPPS Digital to take control of, and modernise our technology. We’re replacing seldom updated, fit-for-no-one technology, with crisp modern, joined up services built around user needs. New services with the same speed, reliability, look and feel we experience when applying for passports, or registering to vote. Delivering probation services through outsourced supplier models, prisons at capacity, new psychoactive substances, more violence and fewer people to deliver with, are among the challenges we face in HMPPS. Time for a radically different and innovative response! We’re transforming: Brilliant Basics -modernising ageing equipment making services robust, reliable and better for users Cheaper – building digital capability, moving technology into the cloud. Rapid, controlled delivery, saving millions last year with more to come Personal – bringing data and systems together with simple, modern, digital services designed for and by users Impactful –giving people time back to do the jobs they were hired for. From court, in communities, prison to joined up services on release Innovative -in-cell education and self service for offenders, handheld devices for prison officers, modern tools deployed in probation, used over 2.5m times in the first 2 months. @Fitzdigitalgov @Justice_Digital ****Vimla Appadoo - Service designer at FutureGov**** With a background in social good and social innovation, Vimla is currently using her skillset as a Service Designer at FutureGov to focus on public sector transformation and what it means to solve 21st century problems with a digital mindset. Vimla has represented the UK tech sector on international trade missions and has spoken on international stages on topics ranging from innovation, empathy and inclusion. A TedX speaker and inclusion champion, Vimla was voted a Top 50 Future Leader in 2016 and Young Digital Leader of the Year 2018. Vimla will be speaking about public sector innovation, the importance of language and why tech isn't always the answer. @thatgirlvim @futuregov and maybe even more to come... LIGHTNING TALKS We'll also have space for brief "lightning" talks on the night, where anyone will have a chance to speak for up to 3 minutes on something that helps more people do good with tech. PARTNERS This event is brought to you in Partnership with: The Federation, Omidyar and the Co-op Foundation OTHER STUFF You can follow us on twitter: #tfgl Please keep your RSVP up to date as we often have high demand, but a fair few no-shows on the night.
