I, Robot: Truths and myths of machine learning and artificial intelligence

Details

Until not long ago, artificial intelligence and machine learning were most likely referred to in connection with sci-fi movies or far-fetched futuristic visions. Now - whether we realize it or not - they are as much part of our everyday lives as the cars we drive, the houses we live in, or the smartphones we communicate with.

Nowadays, there is an increasing number of jobs being fully performed by machines, from manufacturing to music writing. In the technology space, the tendency is to drive processes and products towards ever increasing automation. Machine learning is being deployed across various sectors and can help predict the weather, detect fraud, advise you on legal matters, or even help you fight traffic tickets. Artificial intelligence has become ingrained in daily tasks: you might very well be dealing with AI when you're getting online customer support, receiving a movie or song recommendation, asking Siri a question, reading news, playing video games, or installing smart gadgets for your home.

There is tremendous hype and no lack of possibilities ahead. But amongst so many opportunities, where is the biggest value in machine learning and AI, and how are organizations currently leveraging it? What is the immediate and long-term potential for these technologies? What is still a far-fetched vision, and what is actually becoming our new reality? Join our expert panel to learn more about key trends and issues that will continue to shape the future of technology and remake the world we live in.

EVENT SPONSOR: SIGnature Recruiting (http://sigrecruiting.com/)

"Since 2010, SIGnature Recruiting has been pairing exceptional people with short-term contracts and long-term careers in Vancouver’s flourishing IT industry. We have refined a process that focuses on quality over quantity. Because recruiting is a science and an art, not a numbers game. We weigh cultural fit and personality as heavily as skills and experience. Average won’t cut it. We only deal in excellence. Our team of tech recruiters have the foresight to look beyond one transaction. We think in terms of longevity and future potential, instead. We forge relationships that mean more than signing an offer. Essentially, because we care.”
