Design for all - technology for everyone, accessibility & user experience
Details
We are so excited about this next session, and with such a great line up of speakers to share their stories and expertise we have extended the session a little through to 830pm, if you can stay I assure you it will be worthwhile!
The focus of this session is to explore putting the user at the heart of digital solutions, and particularly under the lens of limited budgets and maximising impact for your organisation. How do we cater for as wider audience as possible? How do you design for your users? How do you cater for users with assisted digital needs? What role can digital play in the lives of marginalised populations? What are our legal obligations?
6pm - SIGN-IN / NETWORKING
615pm - WELCOME (Annie & Cat)
625pm - Giles Colborne, CEO CX Partners (https://www.cxpartners.co.uk/) @gilescolborne
“How to Listen” - Designing for all is delivering holistic user experiences for all users and understanding diversity. Through this session we introduce simple tools and techniques for watching and listening to your users.
645pm - Martha King, Knowle West Media Centre (http://kwmc.org.uk/projects/bristolapproach/)
“The Bristol Approach - Dampbusters Project” Rather than ‘pushing’ technology or pre-determined ‘solutions’ onto people, The Bristol Approach focuses on supporting people to work together to ‘pull-in’ the knowledge, technology and resources needed to tackle a problem.
7pm Graham Rees-Evans @shawtrusta11y, Shaw Trust Web Accessibility Services (http://webacc.shaw-trust.org.uk/our-services/)
“Getting to know your Audience” Is your tech accessible to all members of a population? How can we maximise audience reach? How do users with disabilities access digital technologies? What is accessibility and do you meet best practice accessibility standards and legislation?
720pm Hazel Boyd, Designability (http://www.designability.org.uk/) @hbdesignability
"Designing tech for people with dementia - lessons to share with any tech designers”. Here we look at designing assistive and accessible interfaces supporting vulnerable members of our communities. Check out Hazel’s blog post, "Misconceptions about designing technology for dementia – it’s simple or it’s impossible! (https://designabilityuk.wordpress.com/2016/05/16/misconceptions-about-designing-technology-for-dementia-its-simple-or-its-impossible/)”
740pm Caroline Kuhn (https://carolinekuhn.wordpress.com/about/), @carolak
Digital capacities in education & learning and the case for participatory design in edtech - we will do a short activity to allow the participant to reflect on their digital practice using mapping as a way to inquire into the possible barriers and find enhancers that will help to improve their practice.
7.55pm Close (Annie & Cat)
8pm Community Shout-outs & Networking - opportunity for you to share your ideas, projects, help you need, events, whatever you want to share, followed with networking opportunity
830pm Finish
Look forward to seeing you!
PLEASE do share the meet-up with your networks of charity, voluntary and social impact organisations.
