Mobile Apps; Weapon of Choice - Native, Hybrid or Web?

Details

Our second Techshock will focus on mobile app development.

We will hold several sessions about the pros and cons of the three different approaches to mobile app development; native, hybrid and pure web.

We hope you will leave with new ideas and insights into the different approaches to building mobile apps.

The meetup will be held in VG's auditorium, in Akersgata 55

(Map: http://goo.gl/maps/eR4mU ).Refreshments will be available after the meetup. We will head to a nearby pub and socialize over a few beers, more on this later.

Schedule:

A short introduction to TechShock and the evenings schedule.

18.05 - 18.50: VG+
Padraic Woods (VG) will give a short history of VG+, from idea to how we got to where we are today. We will then hear from Andreas Søvik (VG), Peter Rudolfsen (Aptoma) and Håvard Fossli (Agens) who will give us an insight into some of the concrete challenges and solutions they have faced when developing VG+.

18.50 - 19.05: Food break / socializing
We'll eat some food and socialize.

19.05 - 19.30: FirefoxOS with Olav Nymoen
Olav Nymoen is a developer working on the FirefoxOS project and he will explain why the Mozilla organization focuses on FirefoxOS, and the possible future of HTML applications on mobile devices.

19.35 - 20.05: The Who, What and Whys of App Development
Here we will run several short sessions (max 10 minutes) from different app developers who will talk about:

  • How they've built their app,
  • Why they choose that direction and what if anything would they do differently?

Currently we have Alf Thomas Nilsen from Finn.no (native), Pavel Kurnosov from JOINT Collaboration (Phonegap/Sencha) and Sindre Aarsaether from Forlaget Propell (hybrid).
