For this month's free lesson, talented artist Astra Wijaya (http://www.astrawijaya.com/) will teach about creating pixel art for your 2D retro games. This will be a new track for those who want to learn visual art and we will start with making pixel art. This is a beginner-level class where we will briefly look at the history of pixel art, get inspirations from amazing artists and works, learn what resources are available online, paint some simple objects, and create a stylized pixel art self-portrait. No prior experience or artistic talent required! Macs with Photoshop pre-installed will be provided by a first-come-first-serve basis.

Preparations:

• Have a digital photograph of yourself ready to turn into a pixel art portrait, preferably online or on a flash drive.

• It is recommended to bring in your own laptop with either Adobe Photoshop or Piskel (https://github.com/juliandescottes/piskel/wiki/Desktop-applications) (free and available in Win, OS X, and Linux) installed, in case all the computers are taken. Both will be taught in this course.

• It is highly recommended to bring your own mouse or drawing tablet with your laptop.
