With spring comes thoughts of buds and blooms and nature, so Tech in Motion thought it would be only appropriate to theme our May demos and drinks around environmentally-friendly startups. The company has developed a methodology for detecting and quantifying chemical levels based on the recent discovery of the catalytic properties of DNA. Current product line includes sensors for lead, uranium, mercury, cadmium, copper and zinc.

Verde offers subscription LED lighting to small business, which is free LED and florescent lighting retrofits in exchange for a small monthly subscription that is lower than the monthly energy savings. With over 10,000 energy efficient bulbs upgraded since our pivot from software into actual lighting retrofits in late 2013, Verde hopes to continue to grow our environmental impact in 2014.

Green Grease Environmental likes to define itself as Grease 5.0. Offering traditional grease collection services, GGE guarantees that every single drop collected is converted into biofuels. Using an intuitive back end system that optimizes routes and regularly updates restaurants on their Co2 offset report, the grease business is finally catching up with technology. Servicing over 300 Chicagoland establishments including O'hare airport, McCormick place, Merchandise Mart and the One Off Hospitality Group, GGE is looking forward to more expansive growth in the coming months.
