50K Member Celebration: A Big Party for a Big Thanks

Details

The Tech in Motion community across North America has been growing fast and is about to reach 50,000 members! To celebrate this incredible milestone, we will be holding simultaneous celebration events across 10 cities on December 3rd at 6pm. So mark your calendar! Please join us in Washington, DC.

It is only because of you and the rest of our 50,000 member strong community that we are celebrating this achievement. We are thrilled to bring you—all 50,000 of you—together on December 3rd to meet, to learn, to innovate, and to thank you for helping our event series grow. Over the past three years, you have helped build an incredible community, listened to some amazing thought leaders from companies like Box, Pandora, and Siri, and even honored the best employers and tech managers at the Timmy Awards.

Drinks will be served, companies will demo, and for the first time, we will be simulcasting our events so that our members can network across state, and even country lines. And as always, this event is free to our members thanks to the continued support from Jobspring Partners and Workbridge Associates. We are grateful that you continue to support Tech in Motion, and we are excited to see you there.

More information to come in the following weeks. Please stay tuned and we look forward to seeing you in December!

If your company is interested in sponsoring this incredible event and supporting our community, please email Claire LaCanne at claire.lacanne@workbridgeassociates.com.

Spotluck - In its first year, Spotluck rose from a Georgetown University Masters Capstone to the #1 “dining” app on the iTunes App Store with over 250 restaurant partners. Spotluck’s mobile platform brings yield management to the restaurant industry by providing real-time incentives to the best local restaurants (“spots”) in hyper-local markets. Spotluck’s gamified approach to dining is fun for users while its proprietary software maximizes restaurant profits through exclusive smart discounts that change based on day, time, weather and other factors that affect restaurant occupancy. By collaboratively marketing each neighborhood’s best local restaurants we’ve created a win-win platform that satisfies the belly and wallet (for users) and the bottom line (for restaurants).

Visybl - Visybl is an exciting IoT startup from Maryland, building an asset awareness solution for enterprises. Our turnkey solution includes asset beacons, Bluetooth Low Energy (BLE) gateway, mobile and web apps and APIs. At the 50K Celebration, Visybl will be unveiling its “CloudNode” for the first time. The CloudNode solves the problem of getting data from your beacons — iBeacon, Eddystone, AltBeacon, or any other sensor data — to your cloud apps. Whether you are simply monitoring your beacon deployments to ensure uninterrupted customer analytics, or streaming environmental data, the CloudNode can handle it. As an industry first, it brings must-have business features such as Power-over-Ethernet, multiple fronted radios, USB expansion, remote configuration and updates, and 24/7 unattended operation. All this with plugin-and-go simplicity! Visybl will also be demo-ing its enterprise asset tracking solution.

America’s Future Workforce is a local 501(c)3 nonprofit providing economic opportunity for underserved individuals by distributing stipends to individuals in unpaid internships. This is an important service to those in need because a multitude of foreseeable impediments.

The underserved struggle to find gainful employment because the education-to-employment pathway is littered with obstacles: financial barriers limit educational attainment, technological barriers limit career readiness, and experiential barriers limit occupations accessible to talented newcomers.

Relying upon an antiquated workforce preparedness system holds back American youths and hinders their long-term success. Instead, leveraging creative and inventive ways to train and incentivize youths benefits all involved – employers, education providers, and the next generation of workers.

According to our survey data, it takes an America’s Future Workforce Fellow half the time to land a job, compared to an average worker. Each fellow forges seven new professional contacts to rely on for new job opportunities and mentorship. To date, each fellow has completed his or her time in school and many have gone on to complete advanced post-secondary study. It is clear that our program is successful.

Yet our success is on a small scale. It does not adequately address the need. There are over 6.7 million opportunity youth in America and 30,000 opportunity youth in the Washington, DC area. These youths can use our program to achieve success.

Take a few seconds to help America’s Future Workforce! Either donate (http://americasfutureworkforce.org/donations/) to our cause or sign up to be a volunteer tech hero (http://joinafwteam.americasfutureworkforce.org/volunteer-tech-team/).
