About the Presenter: Tom Albers
Live.Love.Code.Lead
Tom's entrepreneurial and programming mind was established at the early age of fourteen when he coded a billing platform as a service to Psychologists. He learned from day one that protecting patients information was paramount to establishing a successful and trusting relationship, and that software could be sold as a service. His determination and skillful drive was forged under pressure when he left home for the United States Marine Corps (1994). Four hard years helped to cement his cool-under-fire demeanor, his fundamental values and leadership capabilities, and his Semper Fi "Push Push Push!" drive for accomplishment.
After serving in the Marines, he joined Business Anywhere in 1998 and helped to expand their operations from 10 business units to 250 units nationwide. He then invested in an education from Pepperdine University (2004) where he earned a degree in Business and Management, building on his core programming and leadership skills. His education prepared him for a leadership position at Myspace.com (2005) where he established himself as high scaling web architect, directed a team of near 50 internal engineers, and managed the production web farms. It was at this time that he recognized the very real concerns of privacy and security in the nascent realm of social media.
In the last four years, Tom has helped some prestigious management teams build or restructure severalSoftware as a service (SaaS) businesses for funding or acquisition, including New Momentum (10+ million in funding in 2006), AMG-SIU (acquired by HMS for $26M in 2009), Direct EDI (acquired for $10M by SPS Commerce in 2010), and SendGrid (Series B $20M round in 2011). In those businesses he re-architected the solutions for scale, established the Agile development methodology for continuous improvement, led large scale offshore development teams (in India, China, Ukraine andRomania), and significantly contributed to each business's ability to kick ass.
In addition to Tom's professional accomplishments, he has significantly contributed content to the book "What Great Salespeople Do: The Science of Selling Through Emotional Connection and the Power of Story" for StoryLeaders, LLC. He has led technology and leadership seminars throughout the US, Ukraine, and China, and is an active Crossfit athlete and self-proclaimed Paleo health nut. Push Push Push!
