UX Design for Tech Writers: Reaching beyond our roles & enhancing the product!
Our phones, tablets, and our computers are complex, yet most of us don’t need a manual or extensive training to operate them. We know that tech manuals are a requirement for most automated equipment and industrial processes. Most of these “traditional type” manuals look and function as they have for many years despite huge advances in digital communications. Why? What if we incorporated state-of-the-art techniques that include such things as UX design and interactive multimedia options instead of static and limited print-type publications? What if we could make the information responsive to users immediate needs, intuitive to navigate, and simple to understand? This presentation portrays real-world examples that show tips and techniques that could revolutionize how we both create and deliver technical information to our audience. Learn how we can evolve in our roles and enhance the actual product/service to help users be more effective, which can lead to heightened safety and greater productivity with less effort. And there’s one more thing! Do you know about Apple’s multi-touch iBooks and that unique publishing system? You’ll learn a bit about that as well.
