Get the ANZACs to Gallipoli!

Details
Ahead of the 100th anniversary, we're going to work on an animation of ships that took the ANZAC battalions to Egypt and then on to the famous landing at Anzac Cove.
So far the first convoy is done, but the task is to work out the dates of arrival/departure for the second convoy, based on the battalion diaries on the Australian War Memorial website:
https://www.awm.gov.au/collection/awm4/
There are other tasks such as creating symbolic icons, and you'll learn about KML, Google Earth and the current (very imperfect) method of authoring animations and incorporating them into the Web-based Temporal Earth delivery system along with a multi-resolution timeline representation. Potential developers may like to think about a crowd-sourcing interface (a la Open Street Map) that would make this process easier.
The Gallipoli campaign was only a small portion of the war, but if we can get this animation done, there's a chance of getting a grant from the Australian War Memorial to animate all the ANZAC battalions on their movements around France, which would be a great resource for museums and for school students to explore.
Thanks to Open Knowledge Melbourne for offering use of their great space at ThoughtWorks Melbourne. This meetup will be running concurrently with their monthly Open Knowledge Workshop.
A documentary film-making student will be along to film activities on the night, and perhaps record a few interviews.
