Getting started with writing automation for APIs: Live coding session

Details

Team,

With software systems becoming ever more distributed, and with APIs being the glue that connects and holds together many of these systems, knowing how to test and write automation for APIs is quickly becoming an indispensable skill for any modern software tester. But how do you get started?

In this live coding session, you'll see how to get started with exploratory testing on and writing automation for RESTful APIs using the REST Assured library for Java. We'll cover:

  • How to create a Maven-based project with REST Assured and JUnit
  • How to use REST Assured to do exploratory testing on APIs
  • How to get started writing automation based on what we observe
  • How to use various features of REST Assured and JUnit for writing effective tests
