About us
The ABQ Tarot Tribe turned 17 years old in 2026 and has been growing steadily in membership. Inspired by Carrie Paris (www.carrieparis.com) who created the original Santa Fe Tarot Tribe Meetup Group, and birthed here in Albuquerque in 2009 by Margaret Letzkus and Robert Hahn, since 2013 our Tribe has been under the guidance of Cheryl Ryder. Thanks to all of our members, friends, and sponsors for their loyal support.
Each year we look forward to creating new programs as we delve deeper into our studies of the tarot with all of its mystery and wisdom. Please join us for the explorations of this ancient and sacred divination craft for enlightenment. Membership is free; we only ask reasonable donations for attendance at events in order to cover operational costs.
We promise to continue bringing quality presentations to further our collective knowledge of ourselves and the universe of consciousness.
Namaste, Cheryl Ryder, Organizer

See you soon! Cheryl Ryder, ABQ Tarot Tribe OrganizerReminder: There will be an online reprise on Saturday June 6, 2026.
The Four Powers of Life: Understanding Court Cards as Stances of Growth and Maturity Within the Domains of Life.
Tarot doesn’t show us who someone "is" —it shows us how life is being engaged.
What if every tarot reading could be understood through four simple forces that shape human experience?
In our last gathering, we explored the Minor Arcana Cards as Energy Demands within the Four Domains of Life—Acting, Caring, Understanding, Building—and how they appear through the tarot suits and the movement of energy through the numbers.
In this Tarot Tribe Session, we'll explore how the Court Cards reveal how life experience is being engaged through different stances of growth and maturity.
We'll move away from from reading Court Cards as personalities to recognize them as patterns of life engagement that appear throughout many situations and human behaviors.
This important shift in perspective allows readings to move away from labeling and judging to observing, understanding, and effectively responding.
## Together we’ll explore:
🌱 Page — Discovering Capacity
Where is awareness just beginning to open?
🔥 Knight — Developing Capability
Where is learning being actively tested and explored?
🌿 Queen — Regulating Ability
Where are capability and skills being further tested, integrated, and refined into regulated ability?
👑 King — Directing with Agency
Where is regulated ability combined with personal responsibility so that the intentional application of will and power are balanced and effective?## What you’ll take away
• A clear understanding of Court Cards as developmental stances, not personality labels
• A simple way to recognize how experience is being engaged
• A practical method for applying Court Cards in real-life situations
• Hands-on experience working with the Four Powers and Court Cards together
• Insightful discussion with fellow tarot enthusiasts
• A handout containing key ideas and examplesWhether you’re new to tarot or have been reading for years, this session offers a grounded way to see how growth, skill, and maturity shape the way we engage with life—and how the cards reflect that process.
Through tarot, together we’ll explore how the Four Powers and these developmental stances interact in real situations.
This approach can bring clarity to readings and help you see familiar cards in a fresh and practical way.All experience levels are welcome.
Bring a tarot deck if you have one. (We have loaners in case you don't.)
Bring a sweater or light jacket in case the room temperature is cool.
You are welcome to bring beverages in sealable containers and snacks.
Seat cushions are recommended (the chairs are metal).Tarot Tribe gatherings are relaxed, friendly, and exploratory — a space for tarot enthusiasts to learn together, share insights, and deepen their connection with the cards.

Tarot & Counting of the Omer - Week 7 of 7/Malkuth & the 10's/Shavuot
·OnlineOnlineYou are cordially invited to join us! And be sure to also RSVP for our final meeting next week on May 24th as we wrap up our 2026 Journey through the Counting of the Omer 2026,
Each spring a beautiful Jewish contemplative tradition known as the Counting of the Omer invites participants into forty-nine days of reflection between Pesach (Passover) and Shavuot (Pentecost).
During this time we contemplate the qualities of the Sephirot of the Tree of Life, gradually moving through a spiritual journey of reflection, growth, and preparation for insight. In this series the Albuquerque Tarot Tribe explores this journey through tarot using the book:
Tarot and the Gates of Light: A Kabbalistic Path to Liberation
by Mark Alan Horn. Together we reflect on the symbolism of the Sephirot on the Lurianic Tree of Life (Jewish tradition) through the Tarot Minor Arcana suit cards numbered 4–10, sharing insights and discoveries in a warm and welcoming discussion circle. No prior knowledge of Kabbalah is required — just curiosity and a tarot deck. After you RSVP and before the first day of The Omer Count you will receive a Dropbox link to download the Counting of the Omer workbook - a 50-page printable workbook containing the word lists from Mark's book for you to record your card choices and journaling notes.
# A Unique Opportunity for Tarot Study
A wonderful side benefit of following the Omer journey through tarot is the opportunity to become deeply familiar with the Minor Arcana suit cards numbered 4–10.
By following a single suit throughout the 49 days of the Omer, participants encounter these cards repeatedly in 49 different Sephirotic pairings, revealing new layers of meaning each time the cards appear.
Many participants find that by the end of the Omer journey they have developed a much richer and more intuitive understanding of the Minor Arcana.***
# How Our Weekly Gatherings Work
Each week we focus on one “host” Sephira, represented by the tarot number of the week.
The other Sephirot “visit” that host during the daily contemplations.
This invites us to reflect on questions such as:
• What does the visiting Sephira bring to the host Sephira?
• How does the host Sephira influence or moderate the visitor?
• How does this interaction appear through the lens of our chosen tarot suit?
Participants are invited to share reflections, insights, and experiences from their daily contemplations.***
# This Week’s Focus
Our final week of the Omer journey centers on Malkuth, the Sephira of manifestation, embodiment, and presence in the world.
The tarot Tens represent the culmination of the journey through the suit—the full expression of the elemental forces we have been exploring.
As the visiting Sephirot interact with Malkuth, we consider how the qualities cultivated throughout the Omer become visible in our daily lives through responsible action, grounded presence, and lived integrity.
Preparation for the Study
Participation requires the acquisition of a copy of:
Tarot and the Gates of Light: A Kabbalistic Path to Liberation
Please read the introductory chapters if you have not already done so.
These chapters explain:
• the Kabbalistic foundations of the tarot
• the Sephirot of the Tree of Life
• the elemental correspondences of the tarot suits
The book is widely available through local bookstores, online retailers, and many library ebook services.***

Tarot & Counting of the Omer - Shavuot & Wrap-Up Gathering
·OnlineOnline# Tarot & the Counting of the Omer
## Shavuot Reflection and Journey Wrap-Up
Over the past forty-nine days we have followed the contemplative practice of the Counting of the Omer, reflecting on the qualities of the Sephirot of the Tree of Life through the Minor Arcana cards of the tarot.
In the Jewish tradition, the Omer journey culminates in the festival of Shavuot, a celebration associated with revelation, insight, and the receiving of wisdom.
During this final gathering of the Albuquerque Tarot Tribe, we will come together to reflect on the experiences, insights, and discoveries that emerged during the Omer journey.
Participants are invited to share:
• reflections from the tarot cards they followed during the count
• insights that arose from the daily contemplations
• patterns they noticed among the Sephirot and the Minor Arcana
• lessons they wish to carry forward from this practiceThis session will be a relaxed conversation and closing circle as we honor the completion of the Omer journey and look toward the next stage of our paths.
If you followed the Omer practice with us, we warmly invite you to join the discussion.May the insights gained during these forty-nine days continue to unfold as we carry them forward into the months ahead.
Warmly,
Cheryl Ryder
