What better way to put some laughter into our midwinter solstice.! The Gilbert & Sullivan operettas may be an endangered species, but not while the masterful New York Gilbert & Sullivan Players are still around. Absent from the McCarter stage for a decade, they return with one of the duo’s all-time favorites, The Pirates of Penzance—a wild romp about sisters, cousins, and aunts, the model of a modern major general, and a sergeant of police whose lot is not a happy one. TICKETS: I have no more tickets available for Pirates of Penzance. Sometime people need to drop out and wish to sell their tickets. If you might be interested please join the waiting list and I will contact you if a ticket becomes available. Thanks Tickets for center orchestra seating will be $76.00 DINNER: Because it's winter and it's cold I thought we would have a pre show dinner at Cargot Brasserie which is right across the street from McCarter Theater. I thought a 6:00 PM dinner would be fine. Here is there menu: http://www.cargotbrasserie.com/menus/#dinner Let me know if you would like to join me!

OK, all my Sondheim fans.... Merrily is coming to Broadway for a very short run and I was able to secure tickets!!! Merrily of one of Sondheim's earlier works, and though I am familiar with many of the songs I have never seen it. Problem is the show is sold out most dates and I was so lucky to get these center orchestra seats. Because of the demand they are giving me only a week to pay for the tickets. Also, I only have 10 tickets so the first 10 get it. Hope you will join me for this most exciting Broadway experience! Hurry hurry rush rush! Based on George S. Kaufman and Moss Hart's play of the same name, Merrily We Roll Along features a book by Furth and music and lyrics by Sondheim. The story follows the lives of three friends—composer Franklin Shepard, lyricist Charley Kringas, and writer Mary Flynn—and is told backwards. The show features such Sondheim songs as “Like It Was,” “Not a Day Goes By,” “Good Thing Going,” “Now You Know,” “Our Time,” and “Old Friends.”My all time favorite "break up" song is from Merrily. I cry every time I hear it. Does Sondheim ever know my diva soul. Here is Bernadette Peters singing it https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5kMlQgyz834 LUNCH: For a noon lunch prior to the show I thought we would try Ipanema Restaurant. This Brazilian restaurant is very close to the theater and has great reviews. I love Brazilian. You can check out there menu here: https://www.ipanemanyc.com/menus/#lunch I'm hungry already. Let me know if you would like to be included for lunch.
Who wants to see Hadestown on Broadway. Before I secure the tickets I want to see what the interest is. I would need 10 people to secure tickets. It just came off a run in London and looks very interesting. Sort of a folk opera. Respond yes if interested. Hadestown is the acclaimed new musical by celebrated singer-songwriter Anaïs Mitchell and visionary director Rachel Chavkin (Natasha, Pierre & The Great Comet of 1812) that reimagines a sweeping ancient tale as a timeless allegory for our world. Hadestown follows two intertwining love stories — that of young dreamers Orpheus and Eurydice, and that of king Hades and his wife Persephone — as it invites audiences on an epic journey to the underworld and back. Mitchell’s alluring melodies and poetic imagination pit nature against industry, faith against doubt, and love against fear. Performed by a vibrant ensemble of actors, dancers and musicians, Hadestown delivers a deeply resonant and defiantly hopeful theatrical experience.
