What we're about
Aretéanism (are-uh-tay-un-ism) is a new, humanist creed! Areté is an ancient Greek word for the virtue of excellence in all things. It's about being the best humans we can be, both individually and as entire peoples. Check out http://www.areteanism.org !
We have three basic tenets:
1. Be People of Areté
2. Seek Greater Understanding
3. The Intent of the Law, Is the Law
We believe in being practical, thoughtful, virtuous, loving, visionary, and great people and peoples.
The Assemblage of Areté is run by a lay-clergy, which means that none of our clergy members are paid professionals. No baskets are passed around during a service to guilt attendees into donating; any donations made to support the Assemblage's operation are made completely voluntarily and privately.
We're still quite small, but each week we hold meetings on Sunday called "convocations" where we:
-listen to uplifting sermons
-develop a close-knit community
-use symbolism and ritual to reinforce our commitments to our philosophy
You can learn much more about us at http://www.areteanism.org or by just coming to meet us! We need more great people like yourself who want to make a difference in the world! We're looking forward to becoming friends with you!
