The Azure Group (TAG) provides a forum for IT professionals to discuss and share expertise in understanding the cloud technologies available through the Microsoft Azure platform offerings. As organizations look to add cloud technologies to their suite of IT solutions, new technologies, new infrastructure opportunities and challenges arise. Started in Toronto and expanding across Canada, the goal of TAG is to share real world experiences and provide education opportunities as they relate to the Microsoft Azure cloud offerings. Our membership includes IT practitioners, managers, network administrators, students, and anyone who is interesting in learning more about implementing or leveraging the Azure services. Azure Kubernetes and Istio Service Mesh In Action

Session abstract: Azure Kubernetes Service (AKS) is a managed container orchestration service. Roy will demonstrate hosted microservices applications and the Istio service mesh. Roy will discuss some use cases of using the Istio Service Mesh and why one would consider. Also cover, how to manage your cluster with the Kubernetes Dashboard, Kiali, Prometheus, Grafana and Azure Monitor. You will see a practical overview how all these pieces work together. BIO: Roy Kim is a solutions architect and developer focused on Azure and Office 365. He is an independent consultant. In recent years, has been supporting solutions in Azure for large enterprise. This includes Kubernetes design and build in Azure, operational infrastructure, cloud security best practices, SharePoint Server deployment in Azure IaaS. Before then, he has been delivering SharePoint solutions public internet facing web site, document management, portals and custom development with .NET and JavaScript. A Microsoft MVP award recipient since 2017. He holds a BS in computer science degree from the University of Toronto.
