Details

Thank you to WeWork for hosting the space for this event, and for the Cloud 66 (http://www.cloud66.com/?utm_source=meetup&utm_medium=aws&utm_campaign=boston) team sponsoring food and primary presentation.

Presentation: Habitus - a Docker Built System Hosted on AWS

Abstract:
Building a real-world application in containers takes much more than just following simple ADD and RUN steps. Anyone who's built a Docker image before, will know how complex the workflow can get. From how to support multi-tenancy builds, keeping attack surfaces small when creating compile time libraries, to finding solutions for how to expose SSH keys without leaving traces in the image, our own development team at Cloud 66 shared many of these challenges.

To solve this problem, we built Habitus on AWS as an open source build flow tool for Docker. During this talk Khash will introduce you to Habitus, explain how it enables developers to combine multiple Dockerfiles into complex build and deployment workflows, and how you can deploy Docker in production with Cloud 66 (http://www.cloud66.com/?utm_source=meetup&utm_medium=aws&utm_campaign=boston) and AWS.

About Khash Sajadi:
Khash is founder and CEO of Cloud 66 (http://www.cloud66.com/?utm_source=meetup&utm_medium=aws&utm_campaign=boston) that provides a DevOps as a service for Rails and for Docker on any cloud provider. Over the past 20 years, Khash has worked at different roles from Vice President at Lehman Brothers to CTO of startups at Silicon Valley. Khash is passionate about developer tools and how they can improve daily workflow. Khash has a BSc in mechanical engineering and MSc in management of software projects.

Presentation: Development Workflows Using Docker

Abstract: Komand's dev team uses Docker to ensure our development environment closely mirrors production.
With Docker, we enjoy the advantages of an efficient, low-cost local development environment while avoiding the inconsistencies typical of those environments.
I'll show the tips and tricks we use to simplify our Docker builds and streamline our development workflow. I'll discuss our experiences with automation tools like docker-compose and gulp as well as ways to dramatically speed up container file synchronization in non-native Docker environments such as MacOS.

About Jim Salem: Jim Salem is CTO of Komand where we are building an easy-to-use IT security orchestration and management platform. Jim is a pioneer in Internet services and distributed computing. He has held senior technical leadership roles at Datto, Acquia, Endurance International Group, Intuit, BBN, and Thinking Machines. He holds an EECS degree from MIT.
