First Presentation: Data discovery and management on Amazon S3
Abstract: Amazon S3 is scalable, durable and secure. However deriving insights and value from S3 can be expensive and time consuming. In this presentation we will introduce the concept of Smart Object Storage and how to turn S3 into an intelligent data platform for building web, mobile and IoT applications.
Presenter, Thomas Hazel: Thomas Hazel has been at the forefront of communication, virtualization, and database science and technology. Prior to founding Chaos Sumo, he was the Founder & CTO of Deep Information Sciences, as well as, Chief Architect at startups Akiban and Virtual Iron. Thomas is also the author of several popular open source projects, one of which is a database he sold to Oracle. Thomas has patented many inventions in the areas of distributed processes, virtualization and database science. Thomas has a Computer Science degree from University of New Hampshire, and founded the UNH and Deep chapters of the Association for Computing Machinery.

Second Presentation: The transformation from traditional data architectures to building a data lake on AWS
Abstract: Many companies choose to build their data lake on AWS. They find the flexible, pay-as-you-go, cloud model is ideal when dealing with vast amounts of heterogeneous data. In this presentation, Kevin O'Rourke with JetSweep will discuss real world experienced learned when implementing a data lake using AWS tools and technologies.
Presenter, Kevin O’Rourke: In the last 20+ years, Kevin O’Rourke has assisted organizations by delivering valuable industry-based experiences and insight in Business Analytics, Big Data, Cloud and Modernized Architectures, and has developed a Methodology for Data Analytic Solutions. Prior to Co-Founding JetSweep, Kevin held Practice leadership roles at Cognos, NEC, and TriCore and is a member of TDWI. A graduate of BU in Computer Science, he is frequent speaker on Cloud IoT Solutions, Analytics Roadmaps, Corporate & Workflow Performance and Best Practice Methodologies in Analytics.
