This month's talk
Topic - " Intro to (and Defeating of) the Trusted Platform Module (TPM) " - by Jeff Spielberg
A small piece of hardware, the trusted platform module (TPM), is at the root of how phones, computers, servers, and other devices assure the of integrity of code they run – from the bootloader through OS. I provide a brief intro to TPMs, why they’re so critical, and how they work. Next, I show hardware-based attacks against TPMs which we recently demonstrated can allow loading of malicious code or opening back-doors in commercial servers. Attendees should come away with a basic understanding of how TPMs work and how they’re not an invincible as most people think!
Speaker Bio: Jeff Spielberg is into Embedded / IoT security – hardware, firmware, and up the stack. He has a background in Electrical engineering and tinkers with microcontrollers and lots of hardware.
